Description 555 2013-12-06 21:49:56 UTC
Per previous bug 44054 and local consensus to enable the extension get at the time of the previous bug report, please allow that local sysops from br.wikimedia grant access to the relevant userrights (translate, translate-manage, pagetranslation, translate-messagereview, translate-proofr).

As you can see, there is a delay of almost a year from the previous request to this one. This is because, from my side, I was very busy on real life and from the others community members they or don't needed to use this extension or don't figured how to get working with this feature =)

Best,
[[:m:User:555]]

Yep. In a complementary side, the consensus on with the community accepted me back as a sysop on br.wikimedia in order to facilitate translation tasks is at

I known that your team is drafting a bugzilla policy to forbid us to submit new comments like this, but I really want to known the reasons for this very long delay to making a edit on a text file used for settings for a very small wiki.

This comment makes me sad. If you see specific issues, please bring them up on the talk page of https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Bug_management/Bugzilla_Etiquette

"Very long delay": Somebody needs to write a patch (but nobody is obliged).
It should be pretty similar to https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56198#c1 in case you'd like to give it a try.
See http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Developer_access for more information.

I'm having trouble understanding what this bug is about. Could you clarify what exactly you want us to do, please?

As far as I see, brwikimedia has almost exactly the same settings for the Translate extensions as metawiki, with the possible exception that local brwikimedia administrators cannot add themselves to the translationadmin user group (as in the case on metawiki).

A clarification would therefore be welcome.

Just realized that my bug description was ambiguous due to not double checking the https://br.wikimedia.org/wiki/Especial:Listar_privilégios_de_grupos page. The request should be read as "allow sysop users to grant translationadmin rights to users" (tried it now on myself, random autoconfirmed user and random sysop user and in all I'm able to grant only IP block exempt rights)

Thanks for point it out. Last time that I've made a shell bug report (years ago, I was fully inactive on Wikimedia) it was get consensus+submit bug+wait someone implement it. The possibility to send a patch with config changes within the request itself is very interesting. Next time I will try that approach instead of only partially checking the needed changes and causing any ambiguously requests

The default setting on Wikimedia wikis is to let bureacrats be able to add users to the translationadmin group; the linked Ágora page doesn't say anything about giving this right to administrators.

I notice that you do not have local bureaucrats on brwikimedia; I suggest someone from your organization/community requests this right or else seek consensus for allowing administrators to add users to the translationadmin group (as this will require rewriting a dozen or so lines in our configuration files).

Adding 'communitiy-consensus-needed' keyword for the time being; please keep us posted.
Comment 8 Nemo 2014-01-27 17:02:43 UTC
I've read the linked request for rights with my rusty pt-0.33 (romance languages for the win!): given the link and temporal closeness to the Translate discussion I agree it implies that the sysop flag is granted also if not chiefly for translation administration work, so it was just an oversight/misunderstanding that this configuration wasn't explicitly requested so far. (It's also used on some other wikis, they probably thought it default.)
