Description lɛʁi לערי ריינהארט 2005-11-05 01:01:52 UTC
Hallo!

Please take a look at
http://yi.wiktionary.org/wiki/User:Gangleri/tests/%D7%B1
http://yi.wiktionary.org/wiki/User:Gangleri/tests/%D7%95%D7%99

and

http://yi.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=%D7%B1&action=edit
http://yi.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=%D7%95%D7%99&action=edit

This bug report is about the coding of characters %D7%B1 and %D7%95%D7%99 .
See similar note about "precombined characters" versus "NON-precombined
characters" at
bug 2399 comment 25 .

I am not shure if a "character normalisation" is required or not. However
compatibility should be asured between different ways of writing and support for
a large scale of browsers.

At some point this has also some inpact on search and google. This is not the
requirement here.

The first question is if
http://yi.wiktionary.org/wiki/User:Gangleri/tests/%D7%B1
http://yi.wiktionary.org/wiki/User:Gangleri/tests/%D7%95%D7%99
are *two* titles in the database or if these *point only to an identical title*.

Impacts if this can not be fixed:
- because of different ways of coding it might be necessary to make redirects
from all these variants
- making these redirects "manualy" is a source of errors (it might not be
complete etc.)

These are distinct characters:
%D7%B1
U+05F1 HEBREW LIGATURE YIDDISH VAV YOD

%D7%95
  U+05D5 HEBREW LETTER VAV
%D7%99
  U+05D9 HEBREW LETTER YOD

The Unicode database does not define a canonical decomposition for U+05F1.
They are different pages in the wiki.

Thank you Brion for the answer.

http://yi.wiktionary.org/wiki/Category:%D7%95%D7%95 is a category of
"misspelled" redirects for titles where two VAV's
וו
are used. I understand that the character
װ
should be used

I inserted the "misspelled" redirects because they are frequent forms used on
the internet beside many many others

I need more time to think about what to do

Best regards Reinhardt user:gangleri
