Description FritzG 2007-04-16 11:01:17 UTC
While it makes sense that temporarily blocked users can edit their own talk page
(a new feature at least on de-WP), it is not very helpful that indefinitely
blocked vandal accounts or temporarily blocked vandal IPs can do this. As a
consequence, this talk pages have to be blocked seperately to prevent insults to
the blocking admin or other kind of rubbish. And it will get worse when the
hardcore vandals learn about this feature...

Would be enough adding an option on Special:Block to "block talk page"?
Comment 2 FritzG 2007-04-16 12:49:24 UTC
This would make the bug related to
[http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8440 Bug 8440]. I would prefer an
automatic solution to keep things as simple as possible. I don't see any reason
why an IP or an indefinitely blocked user should be able to edit his talk page.

Uh, to request unbanning? Same as anyone else. This will also lead to people
indef-blocking to shut up annoying people when they really want to just block
the user from editing the talk page, which is less than ideal. Bug 8440 is the
more sensible way to do this (is it so annoying to check a box?). I'm strongly
inclined to WONTFIX.

If it's such a problem, just protect the talk page?
Comment 5 Brion Vibber 2007-04-24 20:28:06 UTC
This is a site configuration issue.
