Description Schnee 2004-11-16 20:59:21 UTC
Hi,

I'd like to request an enhancement: it should be impossible to register a
username that is also a valid IP address.

The reason is that this leads to confusion with pages such as
Special:Contributions etc. and is thus used by some sneakier vandals to make
tracking them more difficult (compare [[en:WP:VIP]]).

Thanks!

This was added long, long ago.

If it's stopped working, can you please give some specific examples? I'm not able to replicate
the problem.

There's

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Vandalism_in_progress#User:192.197.71.189

which mentioned this issue.

There was a regression caused by changes to the checks in the
IPv6 support. It should be fixed now, and I've deleted the 50
accounts on en.wikipedia.org that were created.

Thanks. ^_^
