Description Rob Church 2006-12-30 09:58:58 UTC
A number of users dislike the addition of the change size indicators added to
recent changes and other changes lists, and request that we implement a user
preference to allow hiding them.

This bug exists to allow developers to track and review the request in the
appropriate forum, and determine whether or not it should be implemented.
Comment 1 Aryeh Gregor (not reading bugmail, please e-mail directly) 2006-12-30 23:01:51 UTC
We could create a new user preference to allow hiding of every little widget on
every page. In which case the applicable preferences page would be about two
thousand lines long and would be totally unusable as compared to, say, CSS? At
a certain point there's not much mileage in user-friendly buttons for
preferences, as compared to less user-friendly but more flexible magical
incantations that can be added to JS or CSS once formulated by a suitably
proficient technowizard. Furthermore, I'd be very much surprised if all the
users in question didn't soon get as used to the numbers as they are to every
other interface widget we have.

Inclined to WONTFIX, although I suppose we should do something about the
trailing ellipses (classing them or whatever, presumably).

I've had a better idea, which won't see the light for a few months; closing this
as LATER. The immediate request is a WONTFIX, the spirit of it, however, might
get implemented in another form.

Going ahead and WONTFIXing this old issue.

Note that a gadget can easily be made to do this, if it hasn't already. (I'm sure there's lots of user styles for it.)
