Description Raimond Spekking 2006-12-29 20:20:56 UTC
[[de:User:Richardigel]] asked me to file this bug for him:

Media-Wiki allows including pictures into articles and specifying the width of
the picture to be included in pixels. There are various situations in which it
can be wishful to set the width and height of a picture in another unit. The
small Wikimedia Commons logo might be usefully scaled to 1.4ex in order to fit
neatly into a line of text regardless of how large the actual font is rendered.
Generally, setting the width in pixels is slightly dangerous, because the size
of a pixel can heavily vary between rendering devices, such as a printer at
600dpi, which wouldn't give a lot of space to a pixel, therefore specifying the
width should default to happen in pt, especially for .svg-images, which can be
happily scaled to which ever size appears useful.
MediaWiki should support specifying the height and width of pictures separately
and in all available CSS-units.
