Description Thorsteinn A. Malmjursson 2006-12-22 14:08:43 UTC
Moved software from 1.7.0 to 1.8.2 - used Special:Export to export all the pages from old wiki to 1.8.2,
and saved XML file when it was generated. Went to 1.8.2 and logged in after setup, used Special:Import
to take the pages over to the new wiki, and received an error message - "No pages to import". I have no
URL to add at the present time since my Wiki is not presently on the net, I am getting the hang of
creating and running a wiki from my home server first. Not quite sure what happened, but managed to get
all the pages back by simply setting up the new 1.8.2 wiki to use the database I had created with
1.7.0. Was just wondering since I can't find it in db here whether this bug is a known problem. Thanks

Sounds like a bug, but in future, when upgrading, make a backup and run the
upgrade script; http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Upgrading_to_1.8.

Can you provide a sample XML file?

Note that saving the XML from a browser window may fail if you tell it to save
as a self-contained HTML archive or similar (which is a bug in the browser).
Comment 3 Thorsteinn A. Malmjursson 2006-12-23 13:24:51 UTC
I will provide a sample XML file as requested Brion, and place that here as soon as
possible. Could you in the mean time, tell me how to save the XML from a browser
window, if not as a self contained HTML archive, since I don't get that many options.
Thanks.

Save as source.
Comment 5 Platonides 2007-09-09 21:03:19 UTC
The requested XML sample hasn't been provided for 9 months. As the reporter was unable to save a xml file (only as html) i assume Special:Import wasn't getting an xml file and problem was between chair and keyboard.
