Description Rémi Kaupp 2006-11-24 10:30:19 UTC
It would be a good iea to be able to see images in different predefined sizes,
like they do on Flickr (see for example
http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=286466032&size=m). I see the following
advantages :
* Users are able to download scaled-down versions of big images, without the
need to get the big hi-res file ; the default size (800x600 I think) is not
always appropriate
* Wiki contributors can rapidly see which size would be most appropriate for a
given article, especially for diagrams
* AFAIK, the parser is already able to resize images on demand, so this wouldn't
need a huge rewriting of the code.

1. Create a page, e.g. User:Foo/Preview
2. Add an image in a few different sizes to it, e.g. [[Image:Foo.png|200px]],
[[Image:Foo|400px]] etc.
3. Click Save

It's magic!
Comment 2 Rémi Kaupp 2006-11-24 18:25:34 UTC
Thank you Rob :-| but I think this kind of manipulation is not that evident for
readers and people who browse the Commons looking for pictures, without knowing
much about the wiki-subtilities. Currently, image description pages are not
evident at all for newbies, who don't know if they are downloading the hi-res
version or what is displayed. I filed this bug after hearing many comments about
it from different people.

Comment 5 Guillaume Paumier 2009-12-30 21:22:13 UTC
I don't really see the difference with bug 2581 so I'm going to mark this one as duplicate. If I'm missing something, feel free to reopen and explain.
