Description Steve Bennett 2006-06-16 21:48:05 UTC
It would be nice if, when the user searches for (with Go button) an article
or a template, the interface handled them specially. To wit:

Article -> as if the user had requested Article
Template1 -> as if the user had requested Template:Template1

Just a little convenience. I'm talking about the Go box in the Monobook skin.
Comment 1 Platonides 2006-06-22 12:48:07 UTC
I'd add this query to the URL behaviour: /wiki/article and
/wiki/Template1 They'd redirect instead of going to Bad title (they're
forbidden characters in article names:
w:Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_%28technical_restrictions%29#Characters_not_allowed_at_all_in_page_titles)
Comment 2 Rob Church 2006-06-22 15:01:19 UTC
No, the request is quite clear. When the user shoves "foo" in the search box
and hits Go, the thing should be transformed to Template:Foo and looked for.
Comment 3 Platonides 2006-06-22 16:28:46 UTC
Yes, *he* asks for it on the Go search. *I* ask such behaviour for URLs too.
Comment 4 Brion Vibber 2006-06-22 17:49:59 UTC
You will not receive your request. He may.
Comment 5 Steve Bennett 2006-06-22 21:15:51 UTC
:)

So it's been seven years. Nothing happened.

Do we still want it? Because I'm inclined to close it as WONTFIX.

(Also changing component.)
Comment 7 Bartosz Dziewoński 2013-10-16 14:18:01 UTC
WONTFIXing per above.
