The system messages assume that several non-special pages exist, most of them in "Project" namespace. I suggest checking for duplicates or non-relevant links before compiling a list of pages that should be created or modified after installing MediaWiki, if no standard content is provided for them. Examples of things that might be changed: * Links to both :Protected_page & :Protected_page_guidelines * Links to specific pages in ns0: IP address Also, the external links should reviewed (esp. Meta vs. MediaWiki). Attaching a list from the current version of Messages.php.

Hi Broken Arrow! There was already a discussion about -> Main Page either here in MediaZilla or on one of the mailing lists. About Current events used in: currentevents-url IP address used in: anontalkpagetext, etc. you are mentioning in http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=1811 I would suggest to have these pages located in the project namespace. So Current events should be Project:Current events and IP address should be Project:IP address best regards reinhardt user:gangleri
Bug #8846 provides a patch that fixes large parts of the problems described here. See there for details.
I think we have pretty much nailed down the unnecessary links.
