Description lɛʁi לערי ריינהארט 2005-12-05 02:57:24 UTC
Hallo!

At http://mail.wikipedia.org/pipermail/mediawiki-l/2005-December/008739.html i
described that it impossible for me to insert the "real" UFT-8 character   .

A comment from Brion at IRC:
gangleri: from what i recall of past tests, a non-breaking space in HTML
generally ends up as a regular space when you copy-paste from a browser
this may depend on the browser
but it's not really anything we can change from our end

Why this request: There are some MediaWiki messages which will not render HTML
entities and / or codings as &#nnnn; / &#xnnnn;. Such messages vonvert "&" to
"&". This can be a problem because it restricst the coices.

Maybe a change in the charinsert extension syntax can provide a way to insert
the corresponding character to an HTML entity / to &#nnnn; / to &#xnnnn; but let
ist be specified as such.

It would not be acceptable that the only way to insert such codes is that
developers hack the database.

best regards reinhardt [[user:gangleri]]

*addendum* for change in the charinsert extension syntax

please see
Bug 3821: diacritic cannot be used on their own

I suppose we need a kind of "labeling" specifying
a) what will be inserted
b) how this will be displayed for example in [[MediaWiki:Toolbox]].

Labeling would allow to represent: whitespace characters, diacritics, general
punctuation characters etc. Please let me know if such a sysntax is available
already. Thanks in advance!
