Created attachment 11269 [details] screenshot Message 'wikibase-api-cant-edit' is marked as "Do not translate" in Wikibase.i18n.php but used in UI, see Screenshot. Maybe duplicate the message, one for the API (untranslated) and one for the UI (translatable)?
The details section lists the API error messages, and those will not be translated, still they should be parsed. There is some general UI error messages, those are translated. The reasoning for not translate the API error messages is that it will be only a minor number we can translate, and some of the error messages is not generated by our code at all. I think this is a won't fix for the moment, even if we have alternative solutions if people really want the detailed errors translated.
I think it is not good for the acceptance of Wikidata to leave messages in the UI untranslated. Wikidata is a multilingual project. Is there a technial reason that forbids translation, at least for error messages that are under our control? Adding Siebrand and Niklas from the language team in CC.
This has been discussed and we do not want to translate all the different API messages. The messages reported is also from other parts of the code and we basically either have to write a rather fancy module to translate the messages, or rewrite other unrelated parts of the code. It has been accepted to leave the detailed section as untranslated for now.
