hmm i'm the one who created that discussion.

There're two pictures broken in this article.

The first one,

has been fixed because I just updated a newer one image (from en.wiki);

but this one remains broken.

The thumbs in question are now working correctly for me

your url is different from mine, mine is http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/97/Goering-corpse.jpg/300px-Goering-corpse.jpg as mentioned (in every browsers i have), and it's still 401.

Not from Europe.

I can't reproduce it from either cluster (Europe/US). Which country do you live in or what does "nslookup upload.wikimedia.org" says?

Does it still happen? If so, could you attach the 401 page's source or a screenshot? Do you know if you reach the site via an intermediate proxy (e.g. corporate or ISP proxy)?

The url seems to be fixed. I believe somebody has worked on it because it's borken here for 2 days.

BTW if you still wanna know, I live in Florida. And the results of nslookup:
