Please allow for NNTP URLs as specified by RFC 1738.  According to Bug 431, this
should be configurable on a per-installation basis, but I believe such links are
common enough that they should be enabled by default.

An example URL of this form is <nntp://felten.yi.org/FIDONEWS>, which I tried
unsuccessfully to use on Wikipedia here:
<http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=FidoNews&diff=26616201&oldid=26615850>

So you're actually asking for us to add nttp:// to the list of allowed external
protocols for the Wikimedia web sites configuration?

'news:' is the de facto standard already in use, and is in the default list.

Brion, please read RFC 1738.  "news:" and "nntp:" are two different URI schemes
with different functionalities.  The former is a URN which simply points to a
particular newsgroup or article, while the latter is a URL which specifies a
particular path to a newsgroup or article, including the news server.  It is
particularly important for referencing newsgroups which are local to a
particular server.  Such newsgroups are widespread, and are often used by large
companies and universities.
