Description Kevin Berry 2005-07-15 15:03:47 UTC
For example, if I search in Wikipedia for X12 it doesn't find any pages unless
the page has the exact name. i.e. if the page is called "X12" (as opposed to
having X12 in the title) then it will be found. Try searching for X12 on the
Wikipedia site and then go to this page. You'll see that X12 is in the title:

I first noticed this on my own MediaWiki site. I was searching for "EDI" and it
found nothing. EDI is contained in documents and it is in one of the titles and
yet MediaWiki returned no results!

The search appears to work fine for lowercase stuff though.

Looks fine for me although it seems the search engine should probably output first
articles for which the title match the query sent.

The problem with EDI on your own site may be due to the default 4-character
minimum length for mysql full-text searches. See bug 1368 and
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/fulltext-fine-tuning.html .
