Description Minh Nguyễn 2005-07-06 02:38:35 UTC
The Vietnamese-language wikis currently use the default, English-language-style
separators for large and decimal numbers (commas for large numbers, and the
period as the decimal). For the most part, Vietnamese-speakers use the European
notation, with periods for large numbers, and the comma as the decimal.

I am aware that this change should be made in the LanguageVi.php file; however,
we are still working on translating that, and it'll take some time, since we now
have to account for the changes in MediaWiki 1.5. For the time being, it would
be nice if the Vietnamese-language wikis (especially Wikipedia) would be
modified to use the European notation, to avoid any confusion. The code for
doing this could come from the Icelandic localization file:

To be clear, do you want "500 000,12" or "500.000,12" ?
Comment 2 Minh Nguyễn 2005-07-07 21:42:43 UTC
"500.000,12". Sorry for not being clear about that. By the way, do you know of
any work going on for a user preference for number formats, or is this going to
be handled solely with the interface language preference?

I made a new language file for Vietnamese and commited it to CVS HEAD, marking
this as FIXED.

And I don't think anyone's working on a user preference for number formats.

REOPENING bug; this fix was backed out by Bug 2143. According to the discussion
there, the agreement is still to use the European number separators. Also
changing product to MediaWiki, to reflect the fact that MediaWiki now contains a
decently Vietnamese localization, so this bug no longer affects just the
Vietnamese Wikimedia projects.
Comment 5 Niklas Laxström 2005-11-09 08:37:16 UTC
Fixed in HEAD.
Comment 6 Minh Nguyễn 2005-11-10 07:58:08 UTC
When will the Wikimedia sites reflect this fix? Will we have to wait until the
next release?
Comment 7 Rob Church 2005-11-10 12:35:04 UTC
Whenever a developer with the appropriate permissions synchronises the Wikimedia
install with the latest alpha version.
