Description Adrian von Bidder 2010-06-08 16:08:30 UTC
Hi,

By default, Mediawiki sends email (tested: email address verification mails, watched page changes) with an envelope from address of the user name the webserer runs as (often www-data@<hostname>.)

There are various reasons why this should be something different, not least of all sender address verification. (It is not always useful / sensible to make the Wiki server accept email from the outside, and also the wiki server often should not have the organisation's domain name as its official mail name.)

So, please,
 * either allow mediawiki to just use whatever is used for the From: header as envelope, too
 * or to specify a hard-coded envelope sender address.

Currently, both would be ok for my usecase, but other applications might of course vary.

If the feature exists, it should be documented ... I couldn't find it, and the folks in #mediawiki apparently didn't know it either...

Thanks

See $wgPasswordSender/$wgEmergencyContact. Resolving WORKSFORME.
Comment 2 Adrian von Bidder 2010-06-08 16:41:21 UTC
$wgPasswordSender/$wgEmergencyContact set the "From:" header of the email, not the envelope sender.

This bug looks related to bug 6147 - maybe it's even a duplicate...
