F.ex. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/*Foobar will yield a "Wikipedia does not have an article with this exact name." etc. page with somewhat garbled output.

Looks like the * is being interpreted as if it started a new line when substituted into mediawiki:noarticletext (and thus it turns into a bullet). See Bug 12974 Comment 7.
