Description Purodha Blissenbach 2009-09-23 12:42:48 UTC
Message MediaWiki:Mainpagetext should be moved in the installation context.
It should be removed from ~/languages/messages/Messages*.php
because it is not used during normal wiki operations.
Comment 1 Brion Vibber 2009-09-23 17:40:40 UTC
Changing summary to clarify that this is about moving an installer-specific message, and can't be implemented until there actually is a separate .i18n file for the installer.
Comment 2 Chad H. 2009-09-23 18:11:06 UTC
Tagging this for doing in the new-installer.
Comment 3 Siebrand Mazeland 2011-03-20 19:25:59 UTC
Adding to this issue that Chad and I once discussed checking for a main page without edits, and if so, just displaying mainpagetext in the user language, instead of having it added as the first revision of the main page. This would also ensure that if the primary wiki language is changed later on, the default main page ''contents'' will still be displayed.
Comment 4 Purodha Blissenbach 2011-07-13 12:08:55 UTC
While this looks appealing at first sight, on a second thought I believe it was of too little practical value to warrant a special case in page display. Wiki operators usually adopt their main pages to their own needs almost as the next step when done with setup, since showing the default main page to sundry passers-by was not desirable almost always.

If we want to continue the discussion, let us open a new bug for it.
Closing this bug with the move (r92057)
