Description kelvSYC 2005-04-16 05:38:40 UTC
Perhaps an automated system of moving pages across Wikis as per [[m:Transwiki]]
is in order, that could preserve page histories and such.

More thoughts on this idea:

First of all, this is in desperate need for Wikisource, which is going to be
splitting up into multiple language domains. The current consensus is that it is
too tedious to get a developer to manually move the transwiki pages, so they're
going to create full copies of the database and delete them (as deletion doesn't
require developer powers but full-transwiki'ing does). If a feature like this
could be pushed for just the Mediawiki installation in Wikisource, it would
prove un-imaginabaly useful. Please consider our plight, lest we end up deleting
4000+ articles in each copy! :(

All we need is:

* Data format for exporting page histories besides an SQL dump
* Admin tool to import this data format as a new page.

That's it! I don't think it's too much to ask (although that is always said with
reservations as I have no clue what you guys are working on). Once again, Please
Consider! I'm voting for this bug.
