Wikimedia Bugzilla is closed!

Wikimedia has migrated from Bugzilla to Phabricator. Bug reports should be created and updated in Wikimedia Phabricator instead. Please create an account in Phabricator and add your Bugzilla email address to it.
Wikimedia Bugzilla is read-only. If you try to edit or create any bug report in Bugzilla you will be shown an intentional error message.
In order to access the Phabricator task corresponding to a Bugzilla report, just remove "static-" from its URL.
You could still run searches in Bugzilla or access your list of votes but bug reports will obviously not be up-to-date in Bugzilla.

Description Karun 2009-04-30 10:51:42 UTC
Hello,
I have been looking into making changes to the profileinfo.php file to allow it to work better with both postgresql when I found the following licence below in the file.

From what I have read MediaWiki is licensed under the GPL. This file may need to be redeveloped or relicenced under the GPL, as the below copyright notice in the file does not refer to the GPL.

Regards

so? this seems to be compatible with GPL
Comment 2 Karun 2009-04-30 11:01:03 UTC
I am not sure if the licence given in the file indicates it is licenced under the GPL. Although it gives unlimited rights to modify and sublicence it, it does not refer to the GPL.

If it has been sublicenced under the GPL, perhaps this needs to be included in the file. I do not find it clear if it is.
Comment 3 Daniel Kinzler 2009-04-30 11:12:02 UTC
This is the MIT License (aka Expat License) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIT_License which is compatible to GPL according to the Free Software Foundation, compare http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_FSF_approved_software_licenses and http://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html#GPLCompatibleLicenses

Software under that license can be used in any ssoftware under any license, provided the terms of the license itself are met.

Thankyou for your update regarding it.
Having multiple licenses in the code can appear confusing when I am starting to work on this project for the first time for the first time.
