Description brianna.laugher 2009-03-26 00:23:25 UTC
When a page is exported from an old wiki and then imported into a new wiki, the edits are attributed to the username at the new wiki. This is bad because the username at the old and new wikis may not represent the same user (indeed it may not exist at all at the new wiki). It's also in some sense _wrong_, an inaccurate historical record: even if that user exits, they didn't make those edits at that time, at the new wiki.

It should be clear that edits were made elsewhere after they are imported, e.g. convert from User:Foo to User:Foo@old.wiki.domain (and maybe link there too?).
