We uncheck in Preferences
[ ] Format broken links like this (alternative: like this?).
expecting "redlinks" (if that indeed is what it is talking about) to
be rendered with "?" added here in our text browser (w3m, lynx).

However this apparently is not the case. No "?" is added. Instead
looking at the HTML here,

 Format broken links <a href="" class="new">like this</a> (alternative: like this<a href="" class="internal">?</a>).

it seems some CSS is intended. Very well, but how are text browser
users supposed to then distinguish redlinks?

And also what is that "?" all about then, sadly it seems just bait and switch.
