I manage some Commons categories, and more and more i think it will be very usefull if we can specify for some categories a default image. It can improve the navigation accros categories, displaing for each subcategories his subject. It also can help non-english people, displaying an image about the subject plus the english name of the category. For exemple we could define something like that : {{defaultthumb:Image:Super Famicom Controller.jpg}} into the category http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Super_Famicom_Classic_Controller and when we consulte his parent category http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Gamepads or http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Super_Famicom_and_variants the subcategory section will display the default image specified for "Super Famicom Classic Controller". Is it something easy to do ? couldn't that be done as an extension ? Is there problem with license if we can consulte the image and this description somethere into the subcategory ? Thanks a lot for your comment.

Example links or even a mockup might be helpful here. Also, if you have dozens of categories, wouldn't this become really noisy?
