Description Matthew Flaschen 2008-05-26 18:48:05 UTC
Commons should have a C or COM prefix redirecting to Commons, equivalent to the Wikipedia prefix WP. For instance:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:Image_copyright_tags goes to:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Image_copyright_tags

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/COM:Copyright_tags or
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/C:Copyright_tags should go to:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Copyright_tags
Comment 1 X! 2008-05-26 23:57:39 UTC
Changing to Wikimedia, as this is for a Wikimedia project.
Comment 2 Aryeh Gregor (not reading bugmail, please e-mail directly) 2008-05-27 00:07:50 UTC
Apparently it's not going to be c:, see bug 4676.
Comment 3 Matthew Flaschen 2008-05-27 01:39:57 UTC
Those usages (noted at bug 4676) are minor, and I think it would be reasonable to delete them all. Regardless, though, uses on en wiki are no obstacle to using the C shortcut on Commons.

WONTFIX:

* bug 12600
* bug 13904
Comment 5 Matthew Flaschen 2008-05-27 02:38:01 UTC
Perhaps then we could come up with a productive solution, instead of de facto allowing COM, while in theory rejecting it.

I recommend we switch to CM, which does not appear to be reserved for anything, judging by http://www.silinternational.org/iso639-3/codes.asp?order=639_2&letter=c.
Comment 6 Casey Brown 2008-05-27 02:41:45 UTC
WONTFIX -> LATER

Well, that would have to be discussed with the local community. :-) (Considering CM is not used like C:/COM: are, you would have to see if the community wants it.)
Comment 8 Matthew Flaschen 2008-05-27 02:56:32 UTC
I've proposed CM at the Village pump.

If [[Special:PrefixIndex/C:]] is the only reason not to use "C:" as the prefix, it doesn't seem to be a very good one. I see two legitimate articles (one band and one video game) and a bunch of redirects, most of which point to categories and should be fixed to use the conventional prefix for category shortcuts on enwiki, "CAT:", instead.

Comment 10 This, that and the other (TTO) 2014-01-07 04:26:17 UTC
Moving old LATER bugs to appropriate resolutions. This issue is old and no longer relevant today. COM: is used across Commons as a namesacpe prefix shortcut.
