Description Bertrand GRONDIN 2008-04-22 10:17:04 UTC

This script must be run from the command line
Comment 1 Greg Sabino Mullane 2008-05-01 01:10:09 UTC
I would guess this is because populateParentId.php has a require_once 'commandLine.inc'. Try commenting out that line from the file. I would further speculate that there should be a populateParentId.inc file, which the php one calls, and updaters.inc should call the inc, not the php one.
Comment 2 Daniel Friesen 2008-05-01 22:08:07 UTC
Incorrect.

There is no populateParentID.inc, and there does not need to be one.

The require_once 'commandLine.inc' does not break things.

By definition of 'require_once' commandLine.inc will only be required once. And update.php has already done this so it is not included again.

Could you run "php -v" and tell us what it outputs. And also tell us what version of MediaWiki you have.

Though it looks like you have the alpha version. Try doing a svn update first as you may have a broken version of trunk.
Comment 3 Brion Vibber 2008-05-01 22:34:27 UTC
require_once doesn't necessarily work correctly if the paths don't match.

Including a command-line executable script from inside another has a pretty good chance of failing. Particularly so when running from updaters, which may execute from the web installer -- not the command line at all!
Comment 4 Brion Vibber 2008-05-01 22:38:41 UTC
Fixed in r34102. Split the function out to a nice .inc file.
