{{PAGESINCATEGORY:Category}} sometimes shows different numbers than MediaWiki:Category-file-count. See http://de.wiktionary.org/wiki/Kategorie:Deutsch?action=purge (31.432 / 31.369 right now).

{{PAGESINCATEGORY}} accumulates pages and subcategories. @Melancholie: 31.432 pages in this category = 63 subcategories + [...] out of 31,369 total [pages]. @Sasa: Број чланака у категорији: 509 = 1 subcategory (see Ч) + [...] out of 508 total [pages].
Aha. Is there also a {{SUBCATEGORIES:Category}}? It's pretty misleading the way it is now! (article-pages != subcategory-pages)
So, this means that we're wrong. Fine, but ... this magic word is *PAGES*INCATEGORY not PAGESANDSUBCATEGORIESINCATEGORY ... It is ok, but this could be done with different name or something. Thanks Raimond
Maybe this behaviour is caused by a relict of the initial *recursive* version, see bug 6943#c2
PAGESINCATEGORY counts all pages, including category pages and image files. The behavior is correct. 31.434 pages in this category This category has the following 63 subcategories, out of 63 total. The following 137 pages are in this category, out of 31,371 total. 31,371 + 63 = 31,434
