Quick fix that gets rid of a lot of spurious error_log calls.

While working on other fixes, certain non-fatal errors were clogging my error_log, so I fixed them. Particularly, the way that existence of specific keys in arrays was being tested generated errors. I am attaching a patch that cleans up the errors I have been encountering
