In Chinese Wiki projects, such as Chinese Wikipedia, they are using "Automatic conversion between simplified and traditional Chinese" system to solve the problem of conversion between Simp. and Trad. Chinese. Besides UI language, they also can select which Chinese they want to see in their "preference" setting. The setting is called "Variant", and only has five values: zh, zh-cn, zh-tw, zh-hk, zh-sg.

We recently found it would be very useful if there is a new magic word which can catch users's Variant setting. The new magic word will help us solve many conversion problems and arguments.

There are not only Chinese languages (zh) using variants, another languages like Serbian (sr) or Kazakh (kk) languages, their variant value are useful when they can be catched. Please note this problem is related to the bug 10837, the "Variant" value overriding the "Language" value.
