Description Meno25 2007-07-24 14:26:24 UTC
Please create short form interwiki titles for Commons and Wikispecies. (See [[m:Help:Interwiki linking#Project titles and shortcuts]]) Only long forms are allowed now which makes it difficult to link to Commons and Wikispecies.
Comment 1 Danny B. 2007-07-24 14:32:35 UTC
It already has been suggested on http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Interwiki_map#Shortcut_proposals
Comment 2 Brion Vibber 2007-07-24 19:40:05 UTC
More short form links will conflict with existing page titles, which causes trouble. I'd rather not add any more.

Just for record: got any example of possible conflicting titles?

In Swedish valid abbrevations can be made by keeping the first and the last letter of a word and replacing the other letters with a colon. Some of these abbreviations are so common that Wiktionaries may want to include them. An example is "c:a" for circa, conflicting with the proposed shortcut for Commons. Another example is "S:t" for Saint that is used so often that Swedish Wikipedia needed its own shortcut for Wikisource ("src:" instead of "s:").
