When loading pages or clicking links on Wikipedia, IE often crashes for no reason. I managed to find a temporary memory dump on my PC when such a crash occured; the only URL contained in the dump was the URL of Wikipedia's favicon. I do not believe it is an error in how IE handles favicons because all other pages' favicons load normally; it is most likely either an error in Wikipedia or a problem with the favicon itself. After the crash, however, the favicon displays normally. 0_o

The bug occurs on IE6 and IE7.

Oh, and there's a slight bug here too: when you type in an invalid keyword and go back to this form, all of the error text is gone =_=

Mediawiki cannot be responsible if a client crash. It must be a problem in the browser, or other things around it in the client computer.

To the contrary, if possible we'll work around client errors to the extent possible. But this doesn't happen to most users of IE, or else we'd be up to our ears in complaints. Unless you can reproduce this consistently on a variety of computers, there's no way for us to inspect or try to work around the problem. Basic advice is generally to use another browser, or reinstall Internet Explorer (to the extent that's possible without reinstalling Windows).

As for losing your form text, that's something IE just does (at least IE6), which we have no control over at all. I'm mildly surprised that they haven't fixed it for IE7, but anyway current versions of all other major browsers store form text when you go back or forward, to varying extents.
