the syntax :

should render something like
<a href="http:/standards.ieee.org/getieee802/download/802.1AB-2005.pdf">IEEE
standard 802.1AB-2005</a>
but renders :
[http:/standards.ieee.org/getieee802/download/802.1AB-2005.pdf IEEE standard
802.1AB-2005]

I found this on the wiki page

Should be http:// instead of http:/
