When stewards change user right of someone for some wiki, using http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Makesysop , there is no comment field that they can enter a reason. It would be very useful for logging purposes.
I really agree.. and if I wasn't so damn lazy I'd have post this myself earlier :) Being able to add a comment would be really helpful, especially since our actions as steward can supposedly bring lawsuits and similar things upon us (that's the reason we were asked to give ID scans when we RfS, I heard)
following the similar advantage of a commentary with the checkuser-tool for the log, this will communicate much faster the rationales of steward-actions
I have so many times wanted to explain why I did a makesysop action or understand why someone else did one without having to track them down and ask them. This will greatly help the steward community and the community at large.

Thank you very much
This is not showing up in the log now :(
(In reply to comment #6) > This is not showing up in the log now :( What do you mean? The reason?
The box is still there. And you can enter. But the message is not carried to log anymore. See : http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Log/rights The log was working 27th but not anymore.
See [[m:Special:Log/rights]]. A few days ago (like yesterday), the form of a log element was like this: * 22:52, 27 April 2007 Jon Harald Søby (Talk | contribs | block) changed group membership for User:Jon Harald Søby@tawikiquote from (none) to sysop; to delete vandalism While now it only shows up as: * 22:52, 27 April 2007 Jon Harald Søby (Talk | contribs | block) changed group membership for User:Jon Harald Søby@tawikiquote from (none) to sysop (It was correct initially, but now it's not, for some reason.)
