Recently I upgraded my firefox, and I face this error scenario: - I can navigate thru pages normally, except if I request the RecentChanges page. - After the RecentChanges are displayed, all mediawiki navigation are hanging in any Firefox windows or tabs (nothing happens, just waiting for something to display ; only mediawiki fails, i can navigate thru other Internet sites) . - If I exit Firefox, and restart, then I can navigate thru mediawiki again (without passing in RecentPages, it is ok). - I don't have this kind of pb with IE 6.0 Thks for your help, Jean
Just to confirm; is this happening on all MediaWiki wikis, or just the one linked above?
Yes, as fas as I've tested, it occurs only on that wiki (http://www.arkae.org). And for that reason, maybe the firefox upgrade is not the cause. Jean
Do you have enhanced recent changes enabled? If so, try disabling it. Does it occur whether or not you're logged in? Does it occur if you disable JavaScript? If you disable CSS?
I haven't done any technical changes since a long time (4 months ago I think). It occurs in both cases: logged in or not. Javascript is not disabled on my firefow (I suppose I should have seen failures on other actions) Css is not disabled.
Please try disabling JavaScript temporarily and see if the problem goes away: Tools -> Options -> Content -> uncheck Enable JavaScript, OK, try again. You will then want to reenable JavaScript.
Yes I have done it. With javascript enabled or not under firefox 2.0.0.2 (on Windows XP), I have the same result for the following scenario: - restart firefox, clear the local cache - call http://www.arkae.org/wiki/index.php?title=Special:Recentchanges&days=14&limit=500 - click on any link from this page: it hangs. - call other urls starting http://www.arkae.org/wiki/: it hangs also. On the same Windows XP, from IE 6 it is ok. On an Unbuntu Linux using Firefox 1.5 it is ok.
I'm not clear on something: when you say it "hangs", you mean it doesn't load, or it freezes your browser? I was thinking you meant the latter.
Sorry, I've not used a correct word to describe the situation on the browser. It is not freezed and not in real hang state because I still can use my browser (for other things than accessing the mediawiki site): open new tabs or windows, request other sites urls, stop the current request on the current tab. The fact is that any page requested from the wiki site do not load after the RecentChanges page have been displayed, it seems being waiting the server to answer. And there is no timeout, this wait mode can last hours if I don't stop it or restart the browser.
We'll probably need to hear from the maintainer of the wiki, then.
When you say wiki you mean my "www.arkae.org" ? I'm the maintainer of this wiki, and I haven't done a single technical modification since a few months. Tomorrow I will try to test from a few other firefoxs v2 on different PCs. If they all behave the exact same way, the question will be: how a MW RecentChanges page can be dependant on Firefox version?
It works fine for me using Firefox, whether or not I visit the recent changes page.
Today is a new day. Even on my laptop and on my PC at work, it works fine now from firefox V2. I don't understand because my laptop was rebooted twice yesterday. Maybe a kind of server cache. Anyway I close this bug report.
