Same issue as http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8728 'Enable wiki text for MediaWiki:Badfiletype' . Wikilinks show correctly on the MediaWiki page, but the raw contents are rendered in the interface (on Special:Upload). Note that MediaWiki:Fileuploadsummary allows wiki text without any problem. Please make them all behave like this. :) thanks!
This would be a very helpful (badly needed) interface update.
What for? The message is used as a label for the licencing drop-down box, as far as I can see. If it's being used elsewhere, then it should probably be split so we can safely treat the other message.

It's not being used elsewhere, but we accept other licenses besides the ones in the drop-down list (like, dozens more, so it is not reasonable to list them all). See for yourself at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Upload , I added the link I wanted to add to this message, to MediaWiki:Fileuploadsummary as a partial solution. And I don't really understand why there's no consistency with these messages. It's unexpected.
(sigh) So a message supporting wiki text is needed above the licencing selector for explanatory purposes?
(In reply to comment #4) > (sigh) > > So a message supporting wiki text is needed above the licencing selector for > explanatory purposes? As you can see from my edit to the URL linked above, all I wanted to change the text to is "[[Commons:Copyright tags|Licensing]]". It doesn't need any more space. But if you want to add another message supporting wiki text above the licensing selector then fine, I will edit that, when it exists. Is there a problem with me seeking to customise the interface?
The issue with wikitext is that it takes time to parse. We don't want to make every message wikitext for efficiency reasons. Honestly it would probably be easier if we just allowed raw HTML in the messages and did away with wikitext for them altogether, but I suppose that would be unfriendly to non-technical admins.
Well, one problem is that at the moment the choice or whether or not a message takes wikitext seems totally arbitrary. Why MediaWiki:Fileuploadsummary but not this one? Or why dozens of other warning messages but not MediaWiki:Badfiletype? I don't think there's any kind of record about which messages have been chosen to support wikitext and which don't, is there? (Actually some type of mark like this might be useful on special:allmessages.) If you choose to close this bug WONTFIX then fine, I will live with editing MediaWiki:Fileuploadsummary as I have done. But please fix MediaWiki:Badfiletype, I know from months of experience that lack of wikitext (and also two distinct errors covered by this one message) causes big user confusion when they are confronted with this error.
