If you visit a wikipedia page that has an image, the image frame can be seen, but there is no image inside the frame. I am using mozilla, running on a fedora 2. The following can be helpful. For example, If you go to the page about Florence Nightingale, and right click on the image, and then click on properties, these two links are available, but one is available, while the other is not. This can be a good start on narrowing where the bug is. Here, the image was displayed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Florence_Nightingale_-_Project_Gutenberg_13103.jpg Here, the image doesn't show up http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/7f/250px-Florence_Nightingale_-_Project_Gutenberg_13103.jpg
Looks fine to me. Have you set Mozilla to not load images that come from another site? If so, turn this option off. Uploaded files are served from another hostname for security purposes (it reduces the threat of cross- site scripting attacks).
