at the top of the page, and the edit box still there, way at the
bottom of the page, one will surely think their click of "save
changes" was successful, as there are our changes right there, and we
didn't hit preview.

So now we must make another possibly long distance modem call and it's
already daytime phone rates.

It's bright, bold red. If your users need something blinking and pink, then
customise the system message yourself; that's what the MediaWiki namespace is for.
