Currently, when moving pages, if you don't need the redirect, you have to manually go back and delete it. This requires an additional 4 clicks, which is an additional 4 page loads, and even more if you want to delete the redirect to the talk page as well. There should be an option when moving a page (for people with the 'delete' permission) that will automatically delete the redirect after moving the page. This could be useful when reverting vandalism (such as moving "Wikipedia ON WHEELS" back to "Wikipedia"), spelling mistakes ("History of Denark" to "History of Denmark"), and other situations when redirects aren't needed from the old page.
Created attachment 2899 [details] Adds a checkbox when moving pages which allows the redirect to be deleted Requires 7 new system messages: example messages can be imported from http://simpedia.5gigs.com/files/RedirectDeletionMessages.xml
Marking as a duplicate; please check more carefully next time. Feel free to post the patch on the target bug, although I would suggest actually doing it properly - put the messages into the language file and provided a unified diff including them. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 1062 *** *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 1062 ***
