For new pages, the beginning of their content is shown as edit summary by default. If there are line endings, they are converted to spaces for the edit history. Wikilinks remain wikilinks. In the rc channel in irc.wikimedia.org, however, these summaries have line ends removed, and wikilinks are spelt out verbatim (i.e. not converted to links) While the latter is fine with me, I think, line ends should not be dropped but rather converted to spaces, too. Example: - Copy & Paste from IRC : 10:10 rc Francisco Pizarro N http://ksh.wikipedia.org/ wiki/Francisco_Pizarro * Purodha * (+553) New page: Em Joohr 1533 föhrtdä Konkißtadoor Francisco Pizarro dem shpanische Rish sing Troppeen_Amärrikajäje de Inkas ier Rischon zoschläijd_e... - Copy & Paste from Special:Recentchanges : N 10:11 Francisco Pizarro (diff; hist) . . Purodha (Talk | contribs | block) (New page: Em Joohr 1533 föhrt dä Konkißtadoor Francisco Pizarro dem shpanische Rish sing Troppe en_Amärrika jäje de Inkas ier Risch on zoschläijd_e...) - Copy & Paste from page history at http://ksh.wikipedia.org/w/ index.php?title=Francisco_Pizarro&action=history&uselang=en : (cur) (last) 10:11, 18 December 2006 Purodha (Talk | contribs | block) (New page: Em Joohr 1533 föhrt dä Konkißtadoor Francisco Pizarro dem shpanische Rish sing Troppe en_Amärrika jäje de Inkas ier Risch on zoschläijd_e...) [rollback] Mote that, the above was copied from browser display, so the html is not visible here.
Normally it's not possible for line breaks to exist in edit summaries. These are automatically converted to spaces by the HTML specification, but that's probably not great to rely on.
Okay, it appears that something magically turns line breaks in the autosummary to simple spaces (U+20) for new pages. I'm guessing it's fixed on storage in the database, but not on RSS feed or whatever RC bots use. I've set it to happen higher up in the code, r18500. Please wait a few days for the code to be resynced and then confirm whether it helped.
I did help. I've seen several instances of spaces in places of line breaks on RC on IRC, no more concatenated lines. Thanky you!
