Description rami 2006-12-11 04:34:14 UTC
The ku.wiki have a ltr and rtl keys that appears just above the edit box. This
function is really helpful for LTR users trying to write something on ar.wiki or
he.wiki, and at the same time helpful for RTL users trying to work in commons or
other projects. Being an admin on ar.wiki, LTR users always tells me that they
have a very hard time trying to cope with with the RTL edit window we have. And
I had the same complaints from RTL guys trying to work and upload to commons.
The activation of such an option might be best done from user Preferences page.
Such as, users how actually need the option activated on certain project can do
that, while the others don't have to even load its code.

P.S. try to write some LTR text on ar.Sandbox ;)

Thanks.

Note that the feature is currently JavaScript-based. It may be better to
introduce some bulit-in and better code, though.

Also note that the browsers have (or should have) options to switch the
direction: Internet Explorer has Ctrl+Shift, and Mozilla has Ctrl+Shift+X when
Bidi UI is enabled (either in some conditions, e.g. locale, or using the
preference "bidi.browser.ui" - see also
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85420).

Another possibility is enabling this if the user's interface language direction
is different than the content language direction.

Yes Rotem, as you noted, Bidi UI has to be enabled. This is not the case for
lots of users.

There is an gadget for changing the directionality and it seems to be already enabled on commons.
