They're not exactly the same. That is the history of the main page from April 2005. It uses some of the same templates, and the templates are displayed with their current versions. So that's why when you click on the links, the results look similar to the current main page.
There's a bug open somewhere requesting a way to view *everything* the way it was on a certain date, I think, but I don't see it immediately. For now we don't have such a feature, short of manually stitching together the wikitext from each of the appropriate old page versions.
