Description Jason Doucette 2006-08-21 21:04:38 UTC
Alt+F goes to the search box, not the File menu!

(And... when there is a mistake in the bug report, such as from typing an incorrect keyword, it would be
nice if the Back button returned to a page that STILL CONTAINED my typed bug report. Unbelievable...)
Comment 1 Aryeh Gregor (not reading bugmail, please e-mail directly) 2006-08-21 21:11:54 UTC
Both of these are client-side issues.

1) If your client doesn't give you an option to stop accesskeys from overriding
default behavior, MediaWiki can't help that. Accesskeys are provided for those
who want to use them; they will inevitably conflict with built-in access keys,
and there's nothing that can be done on our side about that. We just provide a
list of key-function mappings, your client decides what to do with them. In
this particular case, you can avoid the unwanted behavior by pressing Alt then F
rather than holding both down before releasing.

2) My client (Firefox 1.5) saves what you enter into forms when you go to
another page. If your client doesn't, you might want to choose another, unless
you have a hack to submit for Bugzilla to correct this behavior. Since the
software you entered this bug into was written to track Firefox and other
Mozilla bugs, it understandably isn't as considerate of non-Firefox browsers as
it could be. (Notice that MediaWiki does always provide you what you entered
into forms when there's an error or whatnot, for the sake of browsers like IE.)

The first issue is bug 477, so I'll dupe this to that. If you want to pursue
the second issue, please open another bug.
