Your PHP version is quite old and no longer supported. Does this problem also occur on recent PHP versions?
Please test with 1.4beta.
Closing as the issue is very old. Please test with lastest 1.4 stable or try out 1.5rc2. Also try upgrading php to 4.3.x.
