change it was possible to prevent certain Special pages from showing in the
Special:Specialpages list.

As new special pages are added it is becoming increasingly hard for users to
find the link they need, it would thus be useful to have this feature
reintroduced to prevent pages that are linked to elsewhere from appearing. Such
pages are, Userlogin, Preferences, Watchlist, Recentchanges, and so on. The list
would become considerably shorter and easier to navigate.

You can make any special page listed or unlisted by changing 
SpecialPage.php.
