This is a feature request for a possibility stated above.

Generally, I would like to be able obtain the class name and then react with a
#switch to display some text when the article exists and some other text if it
doesn't. Some extra styling to texts could also be done with that.

Proposed syntax:
{{linkclass:Article name}}

I belive this wouldn't be much to do - just parsed as:
[[Article name]]
but only class displayed.

Have you checked out {{#ifexist}} at [[m:ParserFunctions]]?

This would appear to do what you want:
