Option to Automaticly protect high traffic pages so that pages that consistently get a high volume of vistors are uneditable by those anonymous users and also protect pages that are temporarily experiencing a high volume (relativly?) of visits, so that for example if a page is linked on a popular website and experiences a sudden influx of visitors any unregistered users that might take the oportunity to vandalize the page and ruin it for otheres following the link after them are unable to make any changes untill after the traffic has returned to normal and there is no oportunity to ruin a great many peoples possibly first experience with the wiki.
I think that's against the wiki way. It means that most users won't see how easy to edit articles, but just protected pages.
That's part of learning how a wiki works. It's also part of running one. Use built-in protection levels on the pages.
Manualy fixing all the vandalism was part of running one as well untill protected pages were added. Auto-protecting pages would save a lot of time for the people moderating and catch things they would otherwise miss and do so much quicker. It is not against the "wiki way" nor does it interfere with learning how it works, the popular articles new users see are often protected already, is it against the "wiki way" to protect users from opportunistic vandals?
Note that automatic protection based on page hits would have to be switched off on Wikimedia wikis anyway, since we don't log them.
