I need images to be displayed from external sites. Such as <img
src="http://example.com/images/happyface.jpg">.  No caption needed Clicking on
the image should take me to the link behind the image.

The image should not be part of the wiki database.  It does not need to be
version controlled.  One application of such an image/link is when the image
changes often at the source site.

Enable external image URLs and stick in the URL. See the 
documentation.
