The links to irc are now default to [1], Normaly they where:
irc://irc.server.tld (chat icon)

Introduced in SVN trunk, r14202. We might want to revert the "fix" or fix it
further, or suggest that people update their markup.

See bug 5918. I added a note in UPGRADE ( r14308 ) about the "new" behaviour.

To get an autonumbered link use:
  [irc://irc.server.tld]

To get the whole link with a chat icon:
  irc://irc.server.tld

That make irc / mailto etc protocols consistent with http:// links.
