Hello, I have had a user at the Commons report to me that he is "stuck" in the Chick skin because the preferences aren't clickable, and he can't change it back. I am rather afraid to change my own account into it to check because of this! Please advise this user directly: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:GrahamBould#Re: _Preferences Thanks. User's comment: As soon as I did this [chose 'Chick' skin] a lot of things went haywire - most Preferences aren't clickable, including Skins, & the layout is awful. Editing is bad, can't get the cursor to go where want, etc, etc. It points to corruption somewhere...
Advised user of workaround to switch back to Monobook through preferences. Sounds like the skin is borked and should be fixed or removed.
Thanks very much for the speedy response! It's appreciated.
I tried it and could change back well. It's a little less intuitive as the tabs are shown as normal links, but i think it does work.
(In reply to comment #3) > I tried it and could change back well. It's a little less intuitive as the tabs > are shown as normal links, but i think it does work. The point is that more than one user has reported problems using the damn skin at all, let alone changing preferences back. Perhaps it's due to the nature of the skin's intended use (on small portable devices), and perhaps it's due to a crap skin. Whatever the reason, it needs to be addressed.
Works fine in Firefox Tagging as broken in IE ( blocks #640 )
So what's the workaround? Because I got the same problem, about half of the links don't work in Chick, and the only one working in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences is "Date & Time".
Use this URL to change them back: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Preferences&useskin=monobook
That's a workaround which allows users to change *back* from a broken skin. It doesn't fix the skin, however...
