So that people are adequately informed, any wiki that has CirrusSearch as primary should have the following wikitext added below the search box on [[Special:Search]]: This wiki is now using CirrusSearch, MediaWiki's new search engine. ([[mw:Special:MyLanguage/Help:CirrusSearch|Learn more about CirrusSearch]])

Woops, added it above. Let me see if below is possible without stupid hacks.
Created attachment 13801 [details] Picture of the text above the search box. Looks like adding it below the search box would require a change to Mediawiki as well as Cirrus. If we can get away with above I'd like to do so. It'll keep our master branch compatible with 1.22

I'm not too concerned about the details of the actual location, as long as it's clearly visible.

Cool! Are you Deskana on gerrit? If so I'll make sure you are on appropriate patches.

It's not MediaWiki's new search engine as much as it's Wikimedia's new search backend. However, the language itself is overly complex for the audience, I think. What about something like "We've recently made search improvements (learn more)." The people who click "learn more" can then have terms like "CirrusSearch" injected into their lives. Everyone else can remain happily ignorant. I'd also recommend a page on Meta-Wiki rather than a page on mediawiki.org, again given the context and audience.
Good point. Including the jargon "CirrusSearch" isn't necessary. We'll use Nemo's second suggestion.

Switching back to assigned - we need to decide on which wikis we should show this. All the wikis with Cirrus as primary? We should wait to deploy the config change that turns this on until a bunch of translations come it. Catalan and Italian are probably the most important here.

Assigning to Dan Garry to answer Comment 11.

Sure, we can wait for localisations. I can inform the relevant wikis that we've turned it on via messages to the Village Pump.
Assigning back to myself now that I have an answer. That was quick! I'll sit on it for a while until we get translations.
